Staff & Employment

Serving God

What could be better than working at a place where loving God and loving one another takes priority in everything we do? This is, of course, how all Christians are called to live, but as camp staff, we are blessed to have continuous reminders through frequent staff devotions and annual conferences. In this way, we are encouraged, trained, and discipled by mature Christian leaders in the Christian camping community to persevere in the work God has given us to do. We strive to provide delicious, nutritious food and comfortable, clean accommodations, but the reason we do so is because we love Jesus. Our greatest desire is for Camp Maranatha to be a place where every guest has the opportunity to love, know and follow Jesus, too.

Please pray for each of us to serve "as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 4:11 ESV)

Brian Reeves, Camp Director

Brian isn’t exactly new to camp. Camp Maranatha was his first home and he credits much of his leadership style to lessons he learned while working on our teen staff under the direction of past camp directors Dick and Nancy Beggs (his grandparents) and Keith and Paula Shirley. Brian is grateful for the training and experience he received in the summer of 2018 under Keith and Paula’s leadership and looks forward to serving you.

Tim Shirley, Maintenance Director

Tim has been involved in camping ministry most of his life since he first came to live at Camp Maranatha as a four-year-old. He lived at camp until he left to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering at Letourneau University in Longview, Texas. His time there reaped great rewards as, in addition to a degree, he also gained a wife. From Ashley's hometown of Longview, they moved to Bakersfield, California, and, two kids later, returned when Tim was hired to work at a chemical plant there. Tim enjoyed a great career with a secure future living close to Ashley's family, but he continued to feel a call to work in ministry which started during his youth at camp. This wasn't a desire shared by Ashley until, one Sunday after church, she told Tim God had revealed to her that their family should leave the comfort of her hometown to serve Him in Christian camping. In July of 2018, just eight months after that conversation, the Shirley family left Texas to make their home in Idyllwild, California. In his role as Camp Maranatha's maintenance director, Tim is excited to serve Christ by serving you.
